2017-2022 Honda CR-V (5th gen)
The fifth-generation CR-V is the sensible counterweight to the RAV4: nearly as bulletproof, slightly cheaper used, and with a roomier rear seat and cargo hold that families notice immediately. It is the car for a buyer who wants a no-surprises crossover and is willing to pay a small reliability premium for it. The one caveat that defines this generation is the 1.5-liter turbo engine in 2017-2018 cars, which had early oil-dilution complaints in cold climates; the 2019-2022 examples are the safer pick and worth targeting. Like most SUVs, used prices here resist winter softening better than sedans, so the seasonal dip is shallow and a patient buyer gains less by waiting than they would on a Sonata or K5.
A fair price, not a deal — it's 4.5% above its all-time low, right around its 90-day average.
