The hardest part of buying a laptop is that the word covers almost nothing in common: a fanless ultraportable that runs silently for a full workday and a thick gaming rig that pulls two hundred watts under load both sit on the same shelf. So the first move is never to read spec sheets, it is to be honest about the one or two things the machine has to do every single day. Email, documents, browser tabs, and video calls demand a completely different machine than photo and video editing, software builds, or playing the latest titles at high frame rates. Naming that primary workload eliminates more than half the catalog before you have compared a single number, and it stops you from overpaying for headroom you will never touch.
